While technology for the use of solar energy has already been invented - still it is not feasible to produce commercially. Nuclear energy also has its own limitations for its military dimension. In this regard, we too have our own responsibilities to save energy and thereby give our scientists some extra time for discovering new energy sources.

It is indeed a fact that most people around the world don’t care about this very serious aspect and are not aware as well. But if we maintain some simple and basic things right, then we can reduce consumption of energy to a great extent. Here is how we should do our part in our daily living -

Air Conditioners:

  • Keep the temperature around 23 degrees C which is cool and pleasant even during summer.
  • Coolers consume less energy than air conditioners due to absence of compressors. So, use it instead.
  • Keep the doors of the air-conditioned area closed as much as possible so that the cool air does not escape and warm air does not enter.

Cell Phones:

  • Use a car charger instead of plugging the charger into a wall socket at home.
  • Don’t keep the phone for charging overnight. This might also be harmful to the handset and battery along with wasting power.
  •  While you work on your computer, you can charge your phone using the USB port. This uses the power from the PSU which may otherwise be wasted.

Laptops:

  • Reduce the luminance of the back light to save power whenever possible.
  •  Keep the ‘wireless’ switch turned off at all times, unless you are connected or want to connect to a wireless network.

The more one spends, the he or she receives points for every purchase he makes using the card from the issuing authority. But I am not suggesting that you will spend carelessly and get into debt trap. What I am saying is that whenever you need to buy something, use your card so that your redeemable points are maximized.

    Choosing the best card for best purchase is what is required. There are lots of banks offering different types of cards - so choosing the right one is not easy. Most cards don’t offer cash in exchange of bonus points. They offer gifts like gadgets, accessories etc. instead. Some issuing authorities also offer air miles in exchange of bonus points earned by the user. Recently, some are even offering instant redeem options when a client may redeem at the cash point. The banks have definitely tied up with these companies. Also co-branded credit cards yield more bonus points than the normal cards.

    One should also remember that, not all purchases of same amount yield same points. So one has to study a little bit about all the options that come with a card in order to gain maximum benefit.

There is a proverb ” Men were happy when they lived in caves”. Well, there are many points in support of it. Then, the people had limited desires. They lived in particular areas and their desires were confined to that extent of experience. When we see little, we desire little. In fact, this very proverb is not tenable when we recall the sayings of Jean Jacques Rousseau that, in the ancient time, life was short and brutish. But my point of view is that, happiness does not depend on the span of life. It is rather a matter of contentment. And there are many ways to be contented. Our likings are different. Some find pleasure in earning, while others find pleasure in spending. Others find pleasure in storing their properties. So happiness is not confined to riches alone. It is a matter of attitude. It is a matter of how you take things you pass by. Some are irritated at the sight of break dance, while others are pulled by the thrill of it.

    Men are by nature peculiar. Men do not know where happiness lie. The mad rush of the modern world itself is an example. Somerset Maugham said that, happiness is fairly distributed to the rich and poor. It is not the monopoly of the riches alone. The poorest of the poor also find mental solace at a particular time or place.

They are more bothered about the opportunity that they could miss, if they do not even try for themselves.

    The attitude of a person is very much linked towards achieving success. Depending on the words that a person speaks, reflects the person’s chances of being successful. It is easy to recognize if the person is in control of his life or whether he is being led by his circumstances, based on what he speaks. Certain people wrongly assume by saying, “It is not in my hands”. These people also go further by blaming their circumstances for whatever happens or does not happen to them. Once a negative assumption is made in your mind, the mind tries to follow the suggestion, like a slave. The reason most of us undergo stress in our daily life has less to do with our individual circumstances and more to do with ourselves. It is not what happens to us that creates dissonance in our mind but it is how we perceive when things happen to us.

    Most of us feel that success is limited to a few selected people, who already have everything in life. They further feel that only the lucky ones shine in life. In other words, we feel that success is something that we are either born with. Both these assumptions leads us to give up responsibility for our own success.
