Indian Filmstars Taking To Blogging
Today I was scanning the local newspaper for news headlines that would interest me and I did find a very interesting one at that. There was a headline that read “Bacchan sorry with hint of sting” which referred to an ongoing tussle or clash of personalities between Mr. Amitabh Bacchan and Mr. Shah Rukh Khan about their involvement in the small screen ( yes, the ‘IDIOT BOX’) . I don’t really get interests in squabbling of film personalities because in my view they are of low taste - either professional/personal rivalry and hence accusing each other of sabotaging or cheap publicity stunts. I personally believe in the last point more than the first one.
What made me read the first few lines were involvement of two of India’s biggest film personalities who are almost legends in a film mad country. I again found professional rivalry is being the main focus of the clash.
I would not been blogging here if the news item was just that. The very interesting part that I found was - for the first time I saw Indian film stars (very big one at that) owning personal blogs and using the medium to interact with their fans and well wishers. It seems our filmstars are unaware as yet of the power of blogging and utilizing it as a public relation instrument that would greatly bring them face to face with people who do not live in dream world like them. Mr. Bacchan himself acknowledged it in his two comments -
I was not aware of the existence of such a medium. I read about it in the media, spoke to the people who were in the process of preparing my website and they educated me on the blog.
He is literally having a ball and enjoying the whole new experience that blogging has opened to his eyes which is evident from his following comment -
It has been a most wonderful experience and I have wondered why this was not known to me earlier. The speed of communication the world over, the responses to my thoughts, the adulation and endearment expressed by well wishers, the vulgar and ugly abuses, the strength of the advices that you receive, the healthy criticism, the demand for more on my father’s works, the requests for Hindi fonts and words, the requests from foreign bloggers not to write in Hindi for fear of not understanding it, all of it has been educative and awe inspiring. It has been like talking to each one of them personally sitting across the table. It is time consuming because I read all the messages myself and I write my blog personally too. I have not permitted the server to allow comments to go through a ‘moderator’ because I want a fair, clean, democratic approach to be practised. To cope with this I sleep a little less perhaps to make time for those that write, but what is the loss of a little sleep compared to the love and affection of those that express themselves in the blog.
His blog URL is - http://blogs.bigadda.com/ab/
Not only him. Another very big-shot in Bollywood - Aamir khan is also blogging.

My visiting or reading experience on their blogs have both positive and negative effects. On the one hand I was surprised to find them as very very good writers. At the same time - I didn’t like the personal punk they had against their fellow colleagues.
