It has been long a classic eyesore, butt of many popular jokes as well as post-independence national symbol of India. But the Dilip Chabria touch with all new look, re-modeled intelligent retro-futuristic Ambassador car christened Ambierod of Hindustan Motor Ltd. Has attracted 2 million visitors at recently held Delhi Auto Expo.

The altered design is sleek looking with gull-wing doors and screen mounted interiors. Mr. Chabria choose Ambi, as is popularly known, because according to him most adult Indians could connect with it and due to its history, the eyesore offered him a huge professional challenge. He was determined to create magic out of a staid 70s vehicle and he took inspiration from American Hot Rod movement that works very well on old cars of 30s and 40s. With outsize wheels and an altered BMW petrol engine that has a six-liter V12 powertrain generating 600 600HP, new chassis, electro-pneumatic suspension the car’s interior is very much hi-tech, futuristic and European in nature. The exotic look of the car comes from the hydraulically activated gull-wing doors.

The Ambierod is a three-seater car with three 19” screens which could double up as DVD player or be used for satellite television. The ambient lighting system is controlled by touch screen and there are no buttons whatsoever. The storage space is mind-boggling too which can hold a fridge, a computer, and many more that is necessary for the owner.

Priced at $1 million, the car is for the rich. But it has certainly surprised many who might see the eyesore of Indian roads to vanish soon.

Let’s take a look at some dream vehicles that are possibly the best in their category and most expensive in the world.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4’ looks and moves like a dream. It is one of the fastest and most expensive sports cars in the world today. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason spoke of it as “It’s a little like Formula I racing, foxhunting and tequila. All are hard to justify, but the world would be a little poorer without them.” They are such that make us crave them. They make us cherish a secret desire to possess. They turn us envious of those who posses them.

The Veyron has a horsepower of 1001 and a top-speed of 408 Km per hour. It can accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 2.5 second and the engine is an 8 liter, 16-cylinder powerhouse. The Veyron even has a rear-deck wing that changes angles to assist with high-speed breaking. The price is almost $1.7 million in US. Tom cruise turned up with Katie Holmes at premiere of ‘Mission Impossible III’ in a black Veyron, which will you an idea of who might own this car. Currently, the Veyron is the only model in production from Bugatti, the 98-year-old car manufacturer that was acquired by Volkswagen in 1998. The first Veyron was produced in 2006, with a plan to produce only a total of 300 such cars, 100 of which will be exported to the USA. But the point is, even if we never ever actually possess them what stops us reading about them, raising our eyebrows after seeing their price and feasting our eyes on their gorgeous picture?
